Implementation Research Saxony-Anhalt

We connect research, practice, and regional stakeholders to develop and implement effective healthcare solutions in Saxony-Anhalt.

About us

Innovation for underserved regions: ISA makes research practical

Medical and clinical psychological research is constantly developing, evaluating, and optimizing new diagnostic tools, prevention strategies, and therapies.

However, only a fraction of these evidence-based methods are actually implemented in practice—current estimates suggest as little as 14% (Rapport et al., 2022).
‍
Why is this transfer so rare, and how can it be changed?
‍

Implementation science systematically addresses these questions. It examines the barriers, facilitators, and costs associated with introducing new care models and technologies—from the perspectives of practitioners, institutions, and patients.

ISA – Implementation Research Saxony-Anhalt was established to build regional implementation research capacity across acute medicine, psychosomatic medicine, and longitudinal population-based cohort research, while generating context-sensitive evidence on implementation conditions, health care needs, and opportunities for improving care especially for rural areas.

our goals

Why implementation research?

Innovations only work if they truly make an impact in practice. Implementation research examines how new approaches can be introduced into clinics and practices and anchored there for the long term. In rural Saxony-Anhalt in particular, there are specific challenges to the practical implementation of new care models, such as inadequate broadband connectivity, long distances to specialists, and a high average age of the population. We analyze regional conditions, workflows, and the needs of the stakeholders involved to develop strategies that shape care in a way that allows new concepts to be effectively implemented in everyday practice.

Making science visible

We make our research visible by involving the citizens of Saxony-Anhalt, hosting public lectures, and providing clearly illustrated information on our website and social media channels.

Improve care

We are improving healthcare in Saxony-Anhalt by identifying gaps in care, developing solutions in collaboration with regional stakeholders, and implementing evidence-based approaches such as teleconsultations and personalized exercise and nutrition plans.

Transforming processes

We work with regional stakeholders to advance evidence-based care practices by implementing practical, everyday changes in clinics and medical practices that enhance quality and effectiveness.

Enabling sustainable change

We develop strategies that permanently integrate new care approaches into everyday life—effective, adaptable, and scientifically sound.
