On September 30, 2025, eight citizens aged 40 and over met at Havelberg Town Hall to discuss medical care in their region.
A key topic was the shortage of specialist medical care. Many citizens reported long waiting times, a lack of available appointments, and long distances to travel to receive specialized medical help. The situation is further exacerbated by the impending generational change among doctors. This development is causing noticeable uncertainty among the population. The closure of the KMG Clinic Havelberg (2020) has had a particularly serious impact on emergency care. Numerous participants expressed concerns about not being able to receive medical attention in time during acute situations. Furthermore, mobility issues were described, including, for example, the travel time to and from treatment locations.
At the same time, concrete wishes and potential solutions were formulated. There were repeated calls for the establishment of a Medical Care Center (MVZ) or an alternative emergency admission concept that could ensure reliable round-the-clock initial care. In addition, citizens would like to see incentive systems for young doctors and the increased implementation of telemedicine services.
The project team would like to thank all participants and the city of Havelberg for their support.
