On June 11, 2025, eight citizens aged 40 and over met at the Tangerhütte town hall to discuss medical care in their region.
The discussion made it clear that many participants are experiencing a decline in the quality of care. Issues mentioned included long waiting times, difficulties with online appointment booking, accessible facilities as well as limited mobility in old age. In the view of the participants, the current situation is particularly shaped by demographic change and a shortage of new doctors .
Digital options such as video consultations were also discussed. Some citizens see these as a potential supplement, but many expressed a strong preference for in-person contact with doctors. Another need identified was better psychotherapeutic care in the region.
In addition to current challenges, the participants also formulated concrete ideas, such as a regular Specialist consultation day or additional incentives for medical professionalsto strengthen long-term healthcare in rural areas.
The project team would like to thank everyone involved and the city of Tangerhütte for their support.
